I wanted to share this remedy we learned, and use, for Kits as their eyes are opening.
Get black or orange Pekoe tea bags. Brew one tea bag in a cup of boiling water. Let cool completely. Use with cotton balls to clean newly opened eyes and eyes that keep closing, from about days 10 to 14.
The tea has healing and antiseptic properties. We've used this with our last 4 litters and haven't had any problems with nest box eye. We also completely clean the nest box every week to further prevent infections.

Yup. The tea bags have tannic acid, which is antiseptic. It is also a good idea to give your buns a weak black tea solution once a week in their bottles to help boost immune systems and such.
You can also buy the herb eyebright at health food stores, make a wash (a cooled tea) for eye troubles. But, we can't grow eyebright here in the states, as it is a parasitic plant, and it is illegal in most states to sell seed or plants.
